As with any other International airport, before you are allowed to board the aircraft at Ciampino Airport, you will be required to undertake several procedures. The Departures area inside Ciampino Airport is where you must first go when you are scheduled to depart from the airport.
The following guide is designed to help answer any questions you might have about the Departures area and procedures at Ciampino Airport.
Ciampino Airport Departures Check-In Area
Before you can fly, you must first ensure you have checked-in for your flight. If you are wishing to check-in at the airport, it is always recommended to arrive at the airport at least 2 hours prior to your departure time. This will then leave you plenty of time to check-in for your flight and clear security. Ciampino airport can become busy, especially at peak time when several flights are departing within a short space of each other. This is when clearing Security can take a little longer and why it is recommended to give yourself plenty of time before your flights departure time.
If you are wishing to check-in for your flight at the airport, you will need to make your way to the check-in area inside the Departures hall inside the Terminal building upon your arrival.
There are 31 check-in desks in total inside the Departures hall at Ciampino airport and the check-in area is divided into two halls. In the first hall there are check-in desks 1-15 and in the next hall are 16-31. Both halls are on the same level and you can simply walk from one to the other in second.
Each flight and airline are allocated a number of check-in desks and once you arrive at Departures, you will need to locate the appropriate check-in desks for your flight. The easiest way to locate which check-in desk has been allocated for your flight is to simply look at one of the overhead monitors in the check-in area and it will tell you which check-in desk has been allocated for your flight. Once you know which check-in desk is for your flight, simply make your way to the desk and wait in the queue.
At the check-in desk you will be required to present the appropriate documentation for your flight. Upon presentation of the correct documentation, you will be issued with your Boarding Pass.
Please Note: If you have hold luggage that you wish to check-in, please ensure you have checked how much you weight allowance is. Each airline has their own policy regarding weight and if you exceed the limit, you will be required to pay for every kg over that limit!
Once you have successfully check-in for your flight, you can make your way to the Security area.
Please Note: Many airlines now offer an Online check-in facility. If you choose to use the Online check-in method and you are only traveling with ‘Hand Luggage’ you can simply go straight to the Security area upon arrival. However, if you have checked-in ‘Hold Luggage’ Online, you will need to go to the check-in desk to drop off your Hold Luggage and have it checked-in by a member of staff.
Warning: If you have checked-in Online, ensure you have printed off your Boarding pass before you leave for the airport and that you have it with you. Failure to present your Boarding Pass will result in you having to ask the airline to print you a replacement Boarding Pass and believe me, they are not cheap and can cost up to £100!
There are also Ryanair ‘Self Payments Machine available for passengers wishing to use them at the airport.
