Booking Your Ticket

There are several ways in which you can purchase your ticket and this can be done at the airport upon arrival, on board the aircraft (on some airlines) or on the Internet in advance. It is advisable to book your seat in advance, especially if you are traveling at peak times. Although it is possible to buy a ticket upon arrival at the airport, priority is given to people whom have pre-booked and if the coach is full and you do not have a pre-booked ticket, you will have to wait for the next available coach.

Another incentive to pre-book your coach ticket in advance is that it is cheaper! If you pre-book your ticket it will only cost you 4 euros each way or 8 euros return (at the time of writing) rather than 6 euros each way or 11 euros return at the airport, meaning you will save 4 euros for booking your ticket now. Obviously, it is your decision but 4 euros in your pocket is better than in someone elses!!

Where Does The Coach Depart From

The coach leaves Ciampino Airport from outside the departures terminal and then terminates in Rome city centre at the Rome Termini station. Rome Termini Station is the main hub for all transport in the city such as trains, trams (Metro), coaches and buses.

Train

Although there is no direct rail link to Ciampino Airport, it is possible to catch a train from Ciampino to Rome Termini station. However, you will first need to make your way from the airport to Ciampino railway station. There is a public bus service that runs from outside the main terminal at the airport to Ciampino train station and this only takes about 5-10 minutes. The public bus to the train station usually departs from stand 2 and the bus normally has ‘Via Ciampino’ displayed on the front of the bus.

The local bus from the airport to Ciampino train station cost €1.20 one way (at the time of writing).

The bus then stops outside the train station in Ciampino where you can then catch the train to the city centre station in Rome. On your return journey from Rome, you simply catch the train from Rome Termini station to Ciampino train station and then catch the bus to the airport from outside Ciampino train station.

Taxi

Obviously, taking a taxi from Ciampino Airport to the centre of Rome is probably the quickest form of transport for many reasons. It is also one of the most convenient forms of transfers and means that you do not have to wait for public transport. However, due to the fact that it is more personal and convenient, it is certainly one of the most expensive forms of transfers to and from the airport. The added bonus of a taxi transfer is that you can be taken directly to your final destination such as hotel, apartment in Rome or other accommodation. This eliminates having to carry luggage on and off public transport and fight your way through busy crowds.

The cost is a big disadvantage, especially if you are travelling alone.

Car Hire

Another option for transfer to and from the airport to the centre of Rome is car hire. This said, although car hire is a popular option with many passengers landing at Ciampino, it is also not the cheapest.
